The Pointwise License Wizard allows you to control licensing for Fidelity Pointwise (V18.6). You may specify a license server, specify a license file, activate an evaluation key, or manage previously set licensing data. The wizard also displays your computer's unique hostid, often called the MAC address. The image below shows a preview of the initial page of the wizard.
There are four options available on this window:
The Specify a License Server option gives you the chance to tell Fidelity Pointwise the name of the current functional RLM license server. The steps are as follows:
The Specify a License File option gives you the chance to point Fidelity Pointwise directly to a license file without involving RLM or any secondary license server. This option is uncommon and extremely rare, requiring correspondence with Cadence Design Systems personnel to set up. It only applies to highly specialized, unusual situations. This option requires a special license file sent to you from Cadence Design Systems. The steps are as follows:
This option is for individuals who are evaluating Fidelity Pointwise. It eliminates the need for installing RLM during the temporary evaluation period. Instead of being sent a license file from Cadence, you will receive an Activation Pro keycode - a numeric code that is sixteen digits long. When you enter the Activation Pro keycode and push the Next button, Fidelity Pointwise sends your hostid and hostname information to our RLM server, generates a license file, returns it to your computer, and saves it locally. Again, when launched from the Fidelity Pointwise interface, this feature is only used for evaluation purposes:
To process the Activation Pro code, follow these steps:
Any time you change license servers, the information is saved by Fidelity Pointwise - in theory this streamlines finding a backup server should your main server crash. The Manage License Data feature allows you to delete that history in case you want Fidelity Pointwise to ignore old legacy servers. Special note: the RLM Web Port is set to 5054 by default - that is how you view the RLM administration page in a web browser (see File, License, Open license admin to learn more).
To delete your server history, follow these steps:
