Description
The Fidelity Pointwise Viewer is a free tool (i.e. no license required) that delivers mesh viewing and examining capabilities. In particular, this tool allows you to do the following:
- Open Fidelity Pointwise project files using the File, Open command.
- Import grid entities using the File, Import, Grid command.
- Import database entities using the File, Import, Database command.
- Import source entities using the File, Import, Sources command.
- Examine the quality of your grid using all the tools and diagnostic functions available in the Examine panel.
- Capture the Display window using the File, Print to File Setup and File, Print to File commands.
All other functionality available in Fidelity Pointwise, is not available in the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer.
Caution: Keep in mind that, with the exception of the tools listed above, the regular functionality available in Fidelity Pointwise is not available in the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer.
There are several ways to access the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer:
- Download from our website and install the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer. As mentioned, no license is required to use this tool.
- During the regular installation of Fidelity Pointwise, you are prompted to decide whether you would like to create a Start Menu folder and a desktop icon. If you chose to do so, you will have the options shown in the image below to launch the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer.
- Launch Fidelity Pointwise without a valid license or when all available licenses are in use. In either of these cases, dialogs are displayed (shown below) prompting you to decide whether to launch the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer, Queue for license, or to Exit the launch process.
Once the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer is up and running, there are several indicators showing that you are currently using the viewer. A dialog is displayed in the middle of the screen for 10 seconds indicating that you are running the Fidelity Pointwise Viewer. Also, a watermark in the lower right corner and product name shown in both the title bar and the Messages window. Furthermore, a warning in the Messages window indicates that the viewer cannot create or export grid entities.
