Description

Both the Select menu and the Selection toolbox provide options for specifying which hierarchy is used for the Select Parents and Select Children commands.

Select between Standard Hierarchy or Constrained Hierarchy for the Select Parents and Select Children commands. This setting can be specified either from the Select menu or in the Selection toolbox.

There are two options for hierarchy:

  • Standard Hierarchy (Standard Hierarchy Icon): Specifies that parent/child relationships exist between entities of similar types (i.e. grid entities are parents and children of other grid entities and database entities are parents and children of other database entities). This is the default option.
  • Constrained Hierarchy (Constrained Hierarchy Icon): Specifies that parent/child relationships exist between database entities (the parents) and the grid entities constrained to them (the children).

The figures in the Select Parents and the Select Children sections of this User Manual outline in detail the parent/child relationships for every entity in both Standard Hierarchy and Constrained Hierarchy.
